ISTANBUL (AA) – An Israeli drone strike killed one person in Baalbek in eastern Lebanon on Tuesday night, marking a fresh violation of last year’s ceasefire agreement, the Health Ministry said.
A ministry statement said that the strike targeted the town of Brital, southeast of Baalbek, without giving further details.
Lebanon’s state news agency NNA said an Israeli drone fired three missiles at a civilian car on a road in Brital.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on the report.
Earlier Tuesday, local media reported low-altitude overflights by Israeli drones in southern Lebanon, including the Tyre district and the al-Qasimiyeh and Jouar areas.
An Israeli drone also dropped stun grenades over the Kroum al-Sharqi neighborhood, east of the village of Meis al-Jabal, without causing injuries.
Israel launched a military offensive in Lebanon on Oct. 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, killing more than 4,000 people and injuring around 17,000.
A ceasefire was reached in November, but Israeli forces have conducted near-daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target activities of the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
Under the truce, Israel was supposed to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by Jan. 26, but the deadline was extended to Feb. 18 after Tel Aviv refused to comply. Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
