RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - Israeli forces fatally shot a 24-year-old Palestinian man near Jenin in the northern West Bank on Sunday.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said the Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs informed it of Suleiman Fawaz Nasser Manasra’s death.
No other details were provided. However, Israel’s public broadcaster KAN said that a Palestinian opened fire near the Homesh settlement between Jenin and Nablus and soldiers killed him.
The Palestinian Authority’s official news agency, Wafa, reported that Manasra, a resident of Qabatiya south of Jenin, was killed by live ammunition at the entrance to the Homesh settlement, with his body detained by Israeli forces.
Wafa noted that heavy gunfire was heard at the entrance to the settlement.
Witnesses reported seeing a body on the ground surrounded by Israeli troops, the agency added.
Israeli forces sealed off the road connecting Jenin and Nablus as well as the entrance to the Palestinian village of Bizzariya, alleging a shooting operation in the area, Wafa reported.
Manasra’s death raises the toll of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Jenin governorate to 39 since Israel’s military campaign in the city and its refugee camp began in January, as the army conducts large-scale operations targeting northern West Bank cities and camps, according to Palestinian health officials.
Tension has been high in the occupied West Bank, where at least 954 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, according to Palestinian figures.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
