Israeli police briefly detain head of Turkish institute

Ibrahim Furkan Ozdemir released after an hour

JERUSALEM (AA) - Israeli police on Tuesday briefly detained the head of Turkey’s Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) in Jerusalem.

Police raided Ibrahim Furkan Ozdemir’s home in East Jerusalem around 10.30 p.m. (0830GMT).

Ozdemir was taken to the David Police Center near the Jaffa Gate (Bab al-Khalil) in Jerusalem’s Old City district. He was released an hour later.

Turkey’s embassy in Tel Aviv and its consulate in Jerusalem closely followed the incident.
