JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli soldier died Monday of his wounds sustained from Palestinian fire on the border of the Gaza Strip last week, according to Israeli media.
Barel Shmueli, 21, was shot and injured near a security fence on Gaza border during a Palestinian protest marking the 52nd anniversary of the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Aug. 21.
Two Palestinians were killed and over 40 injured by Israeli army fire during the protest.
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes against positions of Palestinian group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, in response to the shooting.
