JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday canceled his scheduled trip to Egypt to attend the UN climate summit COP27 in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Lapid will be replaced by Israeli President Isaac Herzog in representing Israel in the summit, public broadcaster KAN reported.
Lapid was planned to visit Egypt on Nov. 7 to attend the summit, which is set to open on Nov 6 to 18.
The move came as preliminary results showed that opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu was poised to win Tuesday’s legislative elections and to form the upcoming government.
