Istanbul buries native son killed for $22 in New York

‘Everybody loved him in that community. He was there 20 years. People loved him,’ son tells NY media

NEW YORK, (AA) - A Turkish immigrant gas station manager who was was killed in Long Island earlier this week was buried Friday in his hometown of Istanbul.

Cemal Dagdeviren, 59, was killed by a customer who did not want to pay a $22 bill.

Dagdeviren lived in New York for decades with his wife and two children.

"My dad was really a hard worker," Dagdeviren's son told NBC New York. "Everybody loved him in that community. He was there 20 years. People loved him."

Police are asking anyone with information about the murder to contact authorities.
