BRUSSELS (AA) - Italian Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte on Thursday stalled an EU summit statement, saying EU leaders must first meet the country's demands on migration deal.

A statement by the European Council said "one member reserved their position on the entire conclusions, no conclusions have been agreed at this stage".

The Council said European Parliament President Antonio Tajani and NATO Secretary-General had an exchange of views "as well as discussions on security and defence, jobs, growth and competitiveness, innovation and digital and other issues such as enlargement, MH-17 and MFF".

Conte, before the summit, told reporters Italy does not need more words "but concrete actions".

Saying the summit needs to draw some conclusions and take some action, Conte added blocking the joint statement was "a possibility I hope not to consider".
