ANKARA (AA) – Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Wednesday lauded US President Donald Trump's "tremendous leadership" in reaching a trade agreement between the two sides.

His remarks came after Trump announced that the US and Japan had reached a "massive" trade deal.

"With the idea of 'prioritizing investment over tariffs,' Japan and the US have reached a deal that will benefit both sides. Automobile tariffs and reciprocal tariffs will be 15%. I sincerely thank @realDonaldTrump for his tremendous leadership," Ishiba said on X.

Ishiba also thanked his top tariff negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, and his team for their contributions to reaching the agreement with Washington.

"Together with the President (Trump), we will build a new Golden Era for Japan and the US," said the Japanese prime minister.

Earlier, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, "Japan will invest, at my direction, $550 Billion Dollars into the United States, which will receive 90% of the Profits."

Trump said the deal will create hundreds of thousands of jobs and that Japan will open its doors to trade, including cars, trucks, rice, and certain agricultural products.

"Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%,” he added.
