ANKARA (AA) – Jordan expressed grave concern on Sunday over US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, warning of “catastrophic consequences” from the ongoing escalation in the region.
A Foreign Ministry statement said Jordan is closely following the aftermath of the recent strikes, calling for “an immediate end to the war and a return to negotiations to reach a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.”
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufyan Qudah condemned the “continued escalation in the region” and stressed the need to respect international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty of states.
He urged the international community to “act to halt the dangerous deterioration” that threatens regional and international security, and to activate effective political tracks for resolving crises “in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.”
US President Donald Trump said early Sunday that his forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
The attacks came as the latest escalation in a US-backed Israeli military assault on Iran since June 13, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.
Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
