ISTANBUL (AA) - Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa during a visit to Damascus on Thursday, Syrian state media said.

The state news agency SANA did not provide any details about the content of the meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said Safadi would hold expanded discussions with Sharaa, without giving further details.

Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party’s regime, which had been in power since 1963.

The transitional Syrian administration was declared on Jan. 29, 2025, dissolving the constitution, security services, armed factions, the Baath Party, and parliament.
