King Abdullah II greeted by Uzbek president upon arrival in city of Samarkand, says presidency

ISTANBUL (AA) - Jordanian King Abdullah II arrived in Uzbekistan on Monday on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

A statement by the Uzbek presidency said that King Abdullah II was greeted by Mirziyoyev upon his arrival in the city of Samarkand.

“In honor of the distinguished guest, the national flags of both countries were raised and a guard of honor was formed. A solemn ceremony was held with performances of national songs and dances,” the statement said.

It went on to say that the main events of King Abdullah II’s visit are scheduled for Tuesday, with the two leaders scheduled to visit the sights of ancient Samarkand.

The Jordanian king’s visit was announced by the Uzbek presidency on Sunday, which said the visit will include a summit between the two leaders. The agenda will include discussions on bilateral cooperation and current international and regional issues.

“A package of bilateral agreements is expected to be signed following the negotiations,” the statement added.
