KUWAIT CITY (AA) - Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree Tuesday appointing Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah as the country's new defense minister, according to the state-run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The decree also named Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud al-Sabah as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. Previously, Fahad held both the defense and interior portfolios.

Abdullah Al-Sabah was sworn in before the emir in the presence of Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

This marks his return to the defense ministry, a position he previously held in the government of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah from Oct. 16, 2022 to April 9, 2023.
