IDLIB, Syria (AA) - A civilian was killed by a landmine planted earlier by the YPG/PKK terrorist group in Syria's Afrin region.
A local farmer reportedly struck the mine with his tractor while tending to his crops in Afrin’s northern town of Jinderes.
The Turkish Armed Forces and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) are currently in the process of clearing mines planted in the region by the terrorist group.
In January of last year, Turkey launched a major military operation -- Operation Olive Branch -- with the stated aim of purging Afrin of YPG/PKK terrorist elements.
On March 18 of last year, the 58th day of the operation, Afrin was liberated by Turkish troops backed by FSA fighters.
