BUENOS AIRES (AA) – Gabriel Boric won Chile's presidential election Sunday, becoming the country's youngest leader at the age of 35 after his rival conceded defeat.
According to the Electoral Service of Chile (Servel), with 92% of the votes counted, Boric, a leftist lawmaker and former student activist, received 55% of the vote compared to 44% for his opponent, right-wing populist Jose Antonio Kast.
"I just spoke with Gabriel Boric and congratulated him on his great success," Kast said on Twitter. "From today, he is the elected President of Chile and deserves all our respect and constructive collaboration. Chile is always first."
