Libya records highest single-day virus infections

Libya registers 5 deaths, 1,639 virus cases in past 24 hours

ISTANBUL (AA) – Libya recorded 1,639 infections from the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, the highest single-day count since the first virus case was detected in March.

The country's National Center for Disease Control said it also registered five fatalities and 766 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

Libya’s tally now soared to 56,013 confirmed cases, including 795 deaths, and 30,731 recoveries.

Since starting in China in late December last year, the coronavirus pandemic has spread worldwide, claiming over 1.15 million lives in 188 countries and regions, and causing nearly 42.7 million infections, according to the latest figures from the US' Johns Hopkins University.
