ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany’s largest airline Lufthansa has canceled 23,000 short-, medium- and long-haul flights due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The carrier published on Wednesday its reduced flight schedules for the period between March 29 and April 24.
The airline said it may also cancel some other flights in the coming weeks.
"In the cancellations, care will be taken to ensure that all destinations on all continents can be reached with a Lufthansa Group airline via the hubs of Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna and Brussels," it added.
The virus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December, caused restrictions and cancellations in the global aviation sector.
According to the U.S.-based research school, Johns Hopkins University, over 121,000 people were infected globally, while 4,369 of them died and 66,234 recovered.
Most of the cases were seen in China (nearly 81,000), Italy (over 10,000) and Iran (9,000), the university's data showed.
