Magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolts Turkey's Aegean region

Quake takes place at 10.16 pm local time at depth of 6.5 km, days after 6.6 quake also shook city of Izmir

IZMIR, Turkey (AA) - Days after a quake in Turkey's Aegean region killed over 90 people and injured nearly 1,000, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted the same region late Monday, according to the nation’s disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the quake occurred at 10.16 p.m. local time (1251GMT) at a depth of 6.5 kilometers (around 4 miles).

It struck 22 km (16.6 miles) off the coast of the Urla district of Izmir, the city also struck by Friday’s 6.6 quake, so far claiming 92 deaths and 994 injuries.

With a population of some 4.37 million, Izmir is Turkey's third-largest city.
