Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes Mediterranean Sea off SW Turkey

Tremor occurs 22.4 miles below surface, says Turkish disaster management authority

ANKARA (AA) - A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the Mediterranean Sea around 110 miles off Turkey's southwestern Mugla province late Sunday, the disaster management authority reported.

The quake took place at 9.59 p.m. local time (1859GMT) about 177 km (nearly 110 miles) off the Datca district of Mugla, Turkey, and 21 kilometers (13 miles) off one of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece, according to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

It occurred at a depth of 36.2 kilometers (22.4 miles) below the surface, it added.
