Magnitude 6.5 earthquake jolts Central America

Earthquake occurred off southern coast of El Salvador, says US Geological Survey

ANKARA (AA) – A 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred off the southern coast of El Salvador on Tuesday, jolting some countries in Central America.

The US Geological Survey reported that the quake was centered about 43 kilometers (26.8 miles) to the south of the small coastal town of Intipuca at a depth of about 70 kilometers (43 miles).

The quake was felt in the neighboring countries, including Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, but there are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
