WASHINGTON (AA) - A 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicenter was located at a depth of 19.3 kilometers (12 miles), it said.
The earthquake was shallow and powerful enough to trigger waves or a tsunami.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage.
