Maldives president arrives in Malaysia for official visit

Mohamed Muizzu to discuss bilateral relations, especially in trade and investment, with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

ISTANBUL (AA) - Maldives President Mohamed Muizzuarrived in Kuala Lumpur for a four-day official visit to Malaysia on Sunday, Bernama news agency reported.

Muizzu, along with ministers and senior government officials, landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

It is Muizzu's first official visit to Malaysia since becoming president in November 2023, at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He will be welcomed at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya on Monday.

The two leaders are expected to review bilateral relations and explore opportunities for further collaboration, especially in trade and investment, the halal industry, education, tourism, and youth and sports.

Both leaders will also witness the exchange of three memorandums on cooperation in tourism, sports, and health, as well as two "exchange of notes" on diplomatic training and the establishment of bilateral consultation.

Then on Tuesday, Muizzu will receive an honorary PhD degree in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Muizzi will conclude his visit and return to the Maldives on Wednesday, according to a statement by his office.
