Man shot dead in front of 12-year-old son in Sydney

Police call Taha Sabbagh's murder 'sickening, callous and brazen'

ANKARA (AA) – Armed men killed a man in front of his 12-year-old son in the Australian city of Sydney on Thursday, local media reported.

Taha Sabbagh, 40, was shot dead by gunmen inside his car when he dropped his son outside a gym in Western Sydney, ABC News reported.

Police said Sabbagh was shot multiple times and he couldn't survive despite paramedics' efforts.

Homicide Squad Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty called the attack "sickening, callous and brazen."

"It's horrendous to think a 12-year-old had to witness his father being shot dead in this manner," the broadcaster quoted Doherty as saying.

Last year, gangsters killed two young women, Lametta Fadlallah and Amy Hazouri, in Sydney, taking the number of killing in such incidents to 15 since August 2020.

In a statement, Sydney police said they are investigating the fatal shooting in Sydney’s southwest this morning.

"A crime scene has been established, which is being examined by specialist forensic officers," said the police, adding they have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
