Mediterranean logistic summits to open in Spain

Logistic leaders to discuss regional issues at conference in Barcelona next week

ANKARA (AA) - Leading figures in the logistics and transport sectors in the Mediterranean are to meet in Barcelona, Spain next week.

Two gatherings - the Mediterranean Logistics and Transport Summit and the Mediterranean Ports Summit - will open for two days on Tuesday.

Organized by the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME), the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona and in support of the Chamber of Trade, Industry and Navigation of Barcelona, the summits will draw in companies and executives from around the Mediterranean, Latin America and the Persian Gulf.

“Logistics leaders will attend the summits to promote commercial contacts at regional and international level and synergies among the current logistic projects,” ASCAME said in a statement.

The focus will be on the important role for logistics in providing goods and services to refugees living in camps on the edges of Europe, ASCAME said.

Another issue the summits will hope to address is the gap in logistic performance between north and south Mediterranean ports, organizers said. Over the last four years, global recession and the European crisis have highlighted this difference.

“A major cooperation in the logistics sector between both shores of the Mediterranean would give a positive impulse to the regional economy at times of fragile recovery for the global recession,” ASCAME said.
