ISTANBUL (AA) - US technology company Meta on Monday announced that it has appointed Dina Powell McCormick, a former senior official in Donald Trump's first administration, as its president and vice chairman.

"Today we're announcing Dina Powell McCormick is joining Meta as President and Vice Chairman," the California-based company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads said in a blog post.

Meta said Powell McCormick served as a valuable member of its board of directors and has been “deeply engaged” as the company accelerated its pursuit of frontier artificial intelligence and personal superintelligence.

"Dina's experience … combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth," Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.

Powell McCormick will join Meta's management team, and help guide overall strategy and execution while partnering with compute and infrastructure teams at the company, according to the blog post.

She will also lead efforts to “build new strategic capital partnerships and find innovative ways to expand” long-term investment capacity, Meta said.

US President Donald Trump congratulated Powell McCormick on his social media platform Truth Social, calling her appointment "a great choice."

"She is a fantastic, and very talented, person, who served the Trump Administration with strength and distinction," Trump said.

Powell McCormick served as deputy national security adviser to Trump during his first time and was a senior White House adviser and assistant secretary of state under the George W. Bush administration.

She left Meta's board in December 2025 amid rumors of bigger roles.
