‘Our world is facing continuous geopolitical turmoil,’ says Georg Georgiev

ATHENS (AA) - Middle powers should play a bigger role in global relations, the Bulgarian foreign minister said on Friday, state news agency BTA reported.

"The mission of the middle powers is to play an increasingly important role in international relations and to form a new multilateralism to help solve global challenges," Georg Georgiev said at the 12th Global Baku Forum.

Drawing attention to the contemporary global changes including the proliferation of military conflicts, a fragile global economy, he said “finding consensus solutions to the conflicts around us is crucial for global security and stability.”

Commenting particularly on Europe's relations with the US, which has seen major tension since President Donald Trump took office in January, Georgiev remarked: “This strategic partnership, which has defined world peace, stability and prosperity since the end of World War II, is as necessary as ever. Europe and the European Union must continue to engage constructively and strategically with the US administration."

Bulgaria welcomes Trump's strong commitment to stop Russia's war in Ukraine and to reach a negotiated solution, he stressed.
