ATHENS (AA) – Migration pressure at the Serbian border has increased tenfold, claimed the Hungarian premier’s chief security advisor on Tuesday.

Gyorgy Bakondi said 1,841 illegal migrants have been apprehended this year, compared to only 191 during the same period last year.

Drawing attention to the turmoil in different parts of the world, he warned that if the situation does not improve, Europe could see a new wave of mass migration by spring.

Noting the Western European security crisis, which includes rising violence in Sweden, political turmoil in France and Germany, and Italy's search for national solutions, Bakondi emphasized that Hungary will continue to prioritize strong border protection to ensure the safety of its citizens.
