NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) – At least six people, including a Kenyan police reservist were killed Friday when suspected Al Shabab militants ambushed two Nairobi-bound buses in northern Kenya.

Kenyan police chief Joseph Boinett confirmed the attack, saying local police officers also rescued two people.

Locals told Anadolu Agency that suspected militants ambushed two buses belonging to E-coach and Tawakal Bus Company.

Earlier this week, militants blew up a Kenyan police vehicle which was escorting a bus to Nairobi from Mandera; five policemen were killed in the incident.

In 2014, Al Shabab militants had ambushed a Nairobi bound bus in the same area and executed 28 non-Muslims.
