ISTANBUL (AA) - Morocco’s King Mohammed VI accepted an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the newly formed Gaza Board of Peace, the North African nation announced Monday.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the king agreed to become a founding member of the board, which Trump announced as part of an initiative aimed at supporting peace efforts in the Middle East.
The ministry said the board would include a limited number of prominent international leaders committed to fostering long-term stability and prosperity for future generations.
It described the invitation as recognition of King Mohammed VI’s standing as a key international actor on peace issues and the trust he enjoys with the US administration and the broader international community.
Morocco will move to ratify the board’s founding charter, the statement said, reaffirming the kingdom’s commitment to a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to the ministry, the Moroccan monarch also welcomed Trump’s stated commitment to advancing peace in the region.
Late on Friday, the White House announced the formation of the Board of Peace alongside the approval of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, one of four bodies designated to manage the transitional phase in the enclave.
The creation of the council coincided with the launch of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which halted Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed more than 71,000 people and injured over 171,000 others since October 2023.
The initiative is part of a 20-point plan proposed by Trump and adopted by the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803 in November 2025.
