WASHINGTON (AA) - An apparent murder-suicide at an elementary school in southern California has left two victims dead and two others wounded on Monday.

Police were responding to the shooting at North Park Elementary in San Bernardino, which is roughly 60 miles (96 kilometers) from Los Angeles.

Two adults, including the suspected shooter, were found dead in a classroom, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan wrote on Twitter.

The two wounded are "possible students", he tweeted.

They have been taken to local hospitals, but their condition is unknown at this time, according to Burguan.

Police are continuing to secure the scene as a precautionary measure, but they believe "the threat is down", Burguan said, likely referring to the shooter.
