ISLAMABAD (AA) - Myanmar’s top diplomat arrived in Islamabad late Saturday on a rare four-day official visit to Pakistan, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Than Swe was received at the airport by the director general of the East Asia Pacific Division at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with officials from the Myanmar Embassy, according to a ministry statement.
During the visit, Than Swe is expected to hold talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as other senior officials. Discussions are set to focus on cooperation in areas of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Earlier this month, Dar spoke with Than Swe by phone. On Friday, Pakistan’s ambassador to Myanmar, Tariq Karim, also met with the Myanmar foreign minister ahead of the visit to Islamabad.
The last high-level visit from Myanmar to Pakistan took place in January 2022, when Deputy Foreign Minister U Maung Myint traveled to Islamabad.
