IZMIR, Turkey (AA) - A resident rescued three elderly people from an apartment fire on Thursday in the the Aegean Izmir province of western Turkey.
Waiting for the police and the firefighters to rush to the scene, Yusuf Cinarli, residing in the Fuat Edip Baksi neighbor in Bayrakli district, stormed into the two-story building to rescue Leman Marmara, 90, Askin Orbay, 85, and Ayfer Orbay (82).
Cinarli reentered the building to save five cats trapped under the debris after taking the elderly neighbors out of the building caught in the fire.
“After the fire broke out, we went out with the help of the other residents, but our five cats were stuck inside,” Askin Orbay told Anadolu Agency.
“Hopefully, the cats were also rescued,” he added.
