ISTANBUL (AA) - Nepal’s interim government said Sunday that a judicial commission has launched an investigation into nationwide protests that left 74 people dead and toppled the elected government.
The inquiry commission will examine killings, arson and vandalism during the youth-led protests two weeks ago, the Kathmandu Post reported.
The body was given three months to complete its work and submit its findings to the interim government.
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, who took office on Sept. 14, had pledged to investigate the violence.
Karki, the country’s first woman prime minister and a former chief justice, took office after the ouster of KP Sharma Oli’s government amid the protests.
She also appointed five new ministers, bringing the Cabinet to nine members, including herself.
