ISTANBUL (AA) - Japanese automaker Nissan Motor reported a net loss of 115.8 billion yen ($776 million) for the April-June quarter of 2025, according to the automaker's financial results released on Wednesday.

The net loss was driven by the negative impact of US tariffs on the Japanese automotive sector, according to a statement from Nissan.

In the April-June quarter of 2024, the Japanese automaker reported a net profit of 28.5 billion yen ($191.4 million).

In the same period last year, an operating profit of 995 million yen ($6.68 million) turned into an operating loss of 79.1 billion yen ($530 million).

Nissan's vehicle sales revenue fell by 9.7% to 2.7 trillion yen ($18.1 billion) during the April-June 2025 period.

During the quarter, the company's global vehicle sales fell by 10.1% to 707,000 units.

Nissan said it will reduce the number of its production facilities worldwide from 17 to 10 by the end of fiscal year 2027.

Global vehicle production capacity will also be reduced from 3.5 million to 2.5 million.

Vehicle production at the Cuernavaca plant in Mexico will cease at the end of March 2026.

The Oppama production facility in Kanagawa, Japan, will also be closed by the end of fiscal 2027.

Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said: "These results serve as a reminder of the urgency behind our Re:Nissan recovery plan. Over the past quarter, we’ve taken decisive first steps—cutting costs, redefining our product and market strategy, and strengthening key partnerships.

"We must now go further and faster to achieve profitability. Everyone at Nissan is united in delivering a recovery that will ensure a sustainable and profitable future.”
