No dangerous situation in Trump-Zelensky meeting: Putin

Russian president says Trump only requested from his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate corruption

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian president said on Wednesday there was no "dangerous situation" at the meeting between the U.S. and Ukrainian presidents.

"[U.S. President Donald] Trump, requested from his [Ukrainian] counterpart to investigate a corruption. All states have to do that," Vladimir Putin said in a conference in Moscow.

Putin said he is also not against the publication of his meeting with Trump in Helsinki.

"You can be sure that there was nothing in that meeting which can put Trump at risk," he added.

The U.S. House of Representatives began its impeachment investigation into Trump last week.

At issue is a July 25 phone conversation the president had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump repeatedly pressed Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, over claims of corruption.

Trump has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining his call with Zelensky was "perfect".
