North Korea has unveiled a timetable for passenger rail services linking Pyongyang to Beijing amid a report on the resumption of the route after a five-year hiatus, Yonhap News Agency reported Wednesday.

A North Korean website, DPR Korean Tour, has revealed a timetable and lists a new schedule showing trains departing Pyongyang at 10.25 am (0125GMT)  every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and arriving in Beijing via the border city of Dandong.

The trains return from Beijing later the same evening.

Passenger rail service between the two capitals has been suspended since January 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Japan's NHK recently reported that North Korea and China have agreed to resume the route.

The website also includes schedules for rail services between Pyongyang and Moscow, which resumed in mid-June following a nearly five-year suspension due to COVID-19.

In addition, it also carried a separate timetable for international flights between Pyongyang and Shanghai, offering two flights weekly. However, its operational status remains unconfirmed.

The move comes as North Korea and China appear to be strengthening ties, while Pyongyang has deepened its alignment with Moscow by deploying thousands of troops to support Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine.
