Northern Cyprus reports over 780 COVID-19 cases

Tally surpasses 44,900 while 7,209 coronavirus patients being treated, says Turkish Cypriot Health Ministry

LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (AA) - The Health Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) announced 788 coronavirus cases on Thursday.

The number was detected in 21,443 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, it said.

As many as 7,209 patients are being treated for the virus, including 11 who are in hospital intensive care units.

Also, 650 people to date have recovered from the virus, it added.

The death toll stands at 148, while the case tally is 44,926.

In the last 24 hours, 2,700 vaccine shots have been given throughout the country.


- 3,103 cases in Greek Cypriot administration

According to southern Cypriot media, the Greek Cypriot administration's health authority announced that more than 122,000 tests have been carried out in the last 24 hours and 3,103 new cases were found.

Along with cases on Thursday, 218,374 have been detected since the beginning of the pandemic, while 672 people have died from the virus.

Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed almost 5.51 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with more than 318.25 million cases reported worldwide, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University.
