ISTANBUL (AA) – Oman and India on Wednesday signed a joint vision document, an executive program and four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering cooperation in maritime affairs, agriculture, scientific research and trade.

The agreements were signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Muscat, which started on Wednesday.

The deals included a joint maritime vision document, an executive program for cooperation in millet cultivation and innovation in the food and agricultural industries.

The two sides also signed four MoUs on cooperation in maritime heritage and museums, scientific research, innovation and skills development, agriculture and related sectors, and trade cooperation between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

“Extremely grateful to HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs for the warm welcome at Muscat airport,” Modi said on the US social media company X.

“We also had a great interaction, exchanging perspectives on India-Oman friendship,” he added.

Upon arrival, the Indian premier said: “Landed in Muscat, Oman. This is a land of enduring friendship and deep historical connections with India.”

“This visit offers an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to our partnership,” he added.

Modi’s visit to Muscat was the last leg of his current tour that included Jordan and Ethiopia.

The visit marks Modi’s second trip to Oman after a first visit in 2018 and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1955.

Oman is India’s third-largest export destination among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached approximately $10.5 billion during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, including $4 billion in Indian exports, while imports from Oman amounted to $6.54 billion.
