ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – A journalist was wounded on Tuesday by gunfire from a militia affiliated with PKK terrorist group in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh, according to local media.

The Erbil-based broadcaster Rudaw said militiamen from the self-styled Sinjar Resistance Units opened fire on the Rudaw crew members in Sinjar.

Reporter Tahsin Kasim was wounded and hospitalized, it said, adding that a number of cars and equipment belonging to journalists were also confiscated by the militia.

The PKK terrorist group increased its activities in the northern Kurdish region after an agreement signed between the Iraqi government and the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) on Oct. 9, 2020, which stipulated ending the PKK presence in Sinjar.
