An extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) began Friday in the Saudi city of Jeddah to discuss developments in Palestinian territories.

The OIC said the meeting is addressing "the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, as well as plans to expel them and annex their land."

It is also scheduled to review the Arab reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip that was prepared by Egypt and adopted Tuesday at an Arab summit.

An emergency summit in Cairo adopted Egypt’s $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza, almost destroyed by Israel's relentless bombardment since October 2023 until a ceasefire in January. The military campaign also killed more than 48,000 victims.

The plan offers an alternative to US President Donald Trump’s vision of displacing Gazans to turn the enclave into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

At a preliminary meeting in Jeddah before the convening of the extraordinary meeting and upon an initiative by Türkiye, Syria also regained its OIC membership, according to diplomatic sources.
