ISTANBUL (AA) - Over 1.5 tons of marijuana found inside a shipping container at Istanbul's Ambarli port was seized, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the narcotics department of Istanbul police launched an operation, and confiscated the illegal drugs smuggled via a ship which set sail from Mexico to Istanbul.
According to sources, the operation culminated after two months of technical and physical follow-up, and the marijuana was hidden in bolts of cloth.
During the operation, five suspects, identified only by the initials H.S, C.A, M.U, Z.O and M.S, were arrested.
