ANKARA (AA) - Over the last decade, some 5,500 physicians have left Turkiye to go work abroad, a lawmaker from Turkiye’s main opposition party said on Thursday.
"In the last 10 years, around 5,500 physicians have migrated abroad," said Fazli Kasap, a Republican People’s Party (CHP) lawmaker from the western Kutahya province.
The loss of physicians to countries abroad especially accelerated over the last year, he added.
The number of doctors who got permission from the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) to emigrate abroad due to working conditions reached 4,405 in 2021 alone, he told reporters in parliament.
Doctors in Turkiye are carrying out their duties "under very difficult conditions," he defended.
