KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - At least eight people were killed and over 20 injured after heavy rains flanked by gusty winds wreaked havoc in northeast and northwest Pakistan on Saturday, local media reported.

Six were killed and another 16 injured in the northwestern Bajuar Agency tribal region along the Afghan border in separate roof-collapse incidents, local broadcaster Dawn News reported, quoting local officials.

Pakistan army troops already stationed in the region to maintain law and order were called in to join rescue operations.

Another two people were killed and several injured in rain-related incidents in the northeastern Bhakkar district, the outlet reported.

Footage on multiple TV channels showed trees and utility poles knocked down by torrential rains, and heavy winds lying on inundated roads and streets in various cities.

Heavy winds also blew away roofs from dozens of houses in Bajuar Agency, Bhakkar, Gujranwala, and other cities apart from causing major power outages.
