KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) - Pakistan and Belarus on Wednesday discussed ways to further boost bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense and information technology.
The understanding was reached at a meeting between Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Belarussian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Victor Khrenin in Islamabad, said a statement from Sharif's office.
Khrenin is currently visiting Pakistan along with a seven-member delegation to discuss ways to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Observing that the bilateral cooperation has strengthened in recent years, Sharif said his country wants further expansion in economic cooperation with Belarus.
Apart from further bolstering defense and information technology cooperation, Islamabad also wants to benefit from Belarus' expertise vis-a-vis production of agricultural machinery.
He said the two sides inked several agreements and memoranda of understanding during his visit to Belarus this year, which will further expand bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He also briefed the Belarussian delegation on the recent military standoff with India.
Khrenin, for his part, said that Belarus wants peace in South Asia.
He said the key objective of his visit to Islamabad is to expedite implementation of recently inked agreements between the two countries.
Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and other senior government officials also attended the meeting, the statement concluded.
