KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – Pakistan said Sunday that a DNA test it conducted proves that one of the two people killed in a U.S. drone strike on May 21 in the southwestern province of Baluchistan was former Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.
An Interior Ministry spokesman said in a statement that Mullah Mansoor’s DNA sample has matched that of a “close relative”.
The test, the spokesman said, was conducted when the relative came to receive Mullah Mansoor’s body from Afghanistan.
No further details, including the relative’s identity, were revealed.
