RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) — A Palestinian child was killed and two others injured on Saturday evening in an Israeli airstrike targeting the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, occupied West Bank, which has been under continuous Israeli assault for almost two weeks.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a brief statement that its teams "transported to the hospital a martyr (14 years old) and two injured individuals following an Israeli strike in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin."
According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, "a drone strike targeted a group of civilians near the Saadi Diwan in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin, resulting in the child's death."
Meanwhile, Palestine TV said the "Israeli occupation forces stormed the eastern neighborhood of Jenin following the airstrike on the area."
On Jan. 21, the Israeli army launched a military assault on Jenin city, its refugee camp, and other towns in the province, killing 20 Palestinians as of Saturday evening. The offensive was later expanded to include the city of Tulkarm, where three Palestinians were killed.
The escalation in the West Bank came after a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal took hold in Gaza on Jan. 19, following 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war that killed over 47,400 and reduced the enclave to rubble.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, nearly 900 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied territory in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.
