RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails on Wednesday launched a disobedience campaign to protest Israeli restrictions.

“The move comes in response to restrictions recommended by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against them,” the Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Commission for Detainees and Ex-detainees said in a joint statement.

Detainees will disrupt the security check of their jails by prison guards as part of their disobedience campaign, the statement said.

On Monday, a committee representing the detainees announced a mass hunger strike next month at the start of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Israel has recently imposed restrictions against Palestinian detainees, including their transfer between prisons every three months, limiting their shower time and reducing their water ration.

Palestinian figures show that there are 4,780 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, including 160 children and 29 female detainees.
