JERUSALEM (AA) – A young Palestinian was killed in clashes with Israeli armed forces in the occupied West Bank late Saturday, according to the Palestinian health ministry, while 29 people arrested during overnight raids.
The health ministry said in a statement that the Palestinian died from injuries to his chest after clashes in the town of Izzaria.
His death followed three others on Friday, during clashes linked to protests against the new Israeli security measures at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesperson told Anadolu Agency that 29 people were arrested in the occupied West Bank during overnight raids, including nine Hamas members.
The Times of Israel website reported that several detainees were senior members of the group, which rules the blockaded Gaza Strip, quoting the Shin Bet intelligence agency.
Recent unrest in Jerusalem and the West Bank has followed protests over installation of new metal detectors at the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which Israel claims is a standard security measure in response to an attack that killed two Israeli police officers and three Palestinians.
Three Israeli settlers were stabbed to death in the West Bank late Friday when a Palestinian allegedly entered their home. The alleged attacker was shot dead by a neighbor of the family.
