RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday received Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestine’s WAFA news agency reported.
At the meeting, Abbas briefed Milanesi on recent developments in the Palestinian territories and the fraught inter-Palestinian reconciliation process, according to WAFA.
Abbas also reportedly called for "intervention by the international community to pressure Israel to abide by previously signed agreements".
He also reportedly stressed the importance of the EU’s role in the stalled Middle East peace process.
Milanesi, for his part, voiced his country’s support for the moribund peace process “based on the principle of a two-state solution", according to WAFA.
Rome’s top diplomat arrived in Ramallah earlier Tuesday, where he is expected to meet with a number of Palestinian officials.
