More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October

JERUSALEM (AA) – A Palestinian teen was shot dead by Israeli forces Tuesday in the latest spate of alleged knife attacks in Israel-occupied West Bank.

The Israeli military said in a statement the alleged assailant attempted to stab a soldier at a checkpoint near the town of Bani Naim, in the Hebron district that has been the epicenter of a spike in violence since Friday.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the slain Palestinian as 16-year-old Eesa Turayreh.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces -- either during alleged attacks on Israelis or in clashes with Israeli forces -- since October of last year.

Over the same period, at least 35 Israelis have been killed in the violence.

The latest spate of alleged attacks comes after a months-long wave of Israeli-Palestinian bloodletting appeared to subside in March.
