BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) – Peru’s Prime Minister Guido Bellido and the entire Cabinet have resigned, local media outlets reported late Wednesday.

The reports cited President Pedro Castillo as confirming the development and noting that a new Cabinet will be sworn in later in the evening.

"Today I inform the country that we have accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Guido Bellido Ugarte, whom we thank for his services rendered," Castillo said in a surprise message broadcast on state television.

“I would like to inform you that the new Cabinet will be sworn in tonight," he added.

In his resignation letter, Bellido said: "After fulfilling all the duties related to the institution, I am irrevocably resigning from my position as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, as you requested."

The country's new Cabinet is expected to be sworn in at 8 p.m. local time Wednesday.

In Peru, Castillo, who won the presidential election, was sworn in at parliament on July 28.
